October launch now tentative for October 22!

The date for the October launch is now tentatively set for Oct 22nd. Because of the recent favorable weather, the Hornings will be taking one more cut of alfalfa after the first hard freeze. They recommended that we do not plan for flying on October 8th. So the date is now the 22nd with an asterisk. We will keep in touch with the Hornings and once we know the date of the final harvest we will be able to set a definite date for October. Our scheduled launch for November 12 is confirmed and we may get to fly out of Horning 2 at that time. Sorry for the schedule change.

Big Bertha contest set for October 8th!

Let's try this yet again!

After many postponements, we will have the long awaited Big Bertha contest at the October 8th launch.

Big Bertha Contest:

Designed by Vern Estes, the Big Bertha is the iconic model rocket throughout the decades. Make Vern proud and enter your Big Bertha in this fun contest we will be holding in October

Goal

Make three flights with a single model (Big Bertha) and attempt to score the best in FOUR different events.

Vehicle

As mentioned, this is a Big Bertha contest. If you don’t have a Big Bertha then any rocket with at least 18” of BT-60 and four fins will do. If you wish to build one from scratch you can download the plans here at JimZ Plans

Events

A Parachute Duration – Using an A impulse motor and parachute of any size, get a longest possible duration. Remember, you need to get it back for the other events!

B Streamer Duration Spot Landing - That’s right, two events in one. Using a B impulse motor and streamer for recovery get the longest possible duration AND land closest to the target mark that will be placed randomly at the field.

C Altitude (altimeter) – Using a C impulse motor and electronic altimeter reach the highest altitude. We will have a couple of altimeters to loan out if you don’t have a suitable altimeter.

Prizes will be awarded!

Tony

Launch this Saturday, July 2, 2022!

Sorry for the short notice but the hay has been cut earlier than we expected, so we will be at the Horning #1 field this Saturday July 2. Still checking on if we can get the JMRC trailer on site so stayed tuned. Also, we were not able to get a porta potty (vendor is sold out) but Buzz lives just up the road (about 0.5miles) and has offered to open his home for our use. So please leave room when you park so folks can drive over.
If you plug this address into Google Maps it will get you to the field:
5680 Ernst Rd, Manchester, MI.
Make sure to use Google Maps, other sources may yield unpredictable results.

 Next Launch April 30!

We will be holding our first launch of 2022 on April 30 at Horning Field #2. The JMRC trailer will not be there so we will once again be running "Misfire Alley" style. We will have equipment for high power flight available but bring your own equipment for low power launches. If you don't have your own low power launch equipment I'm sure we can still find some for you to use.

The JMRC cafe will not be there so pack a lunch.

The Horning #2 field is northeast of Manchester on Bethel Church Road between Lima Center Road and Schneider Road, 1.25 miles south of Pleasant Lake.
